Isn't that a great drawing? I just love it.
We decided to use MLK Day to have a family fun day downtown. We headed to the Gateway outdoor mall (a family-friendly area of downtown with shopping, restaurants, museums, movies, etc.) walked around, had lunch, then took the train--a 3ish minute ride that the little boys are still talking about--over to Temple Square.
In our family scripture reading, we're right at the climax in 3rd Nephi, so we took the kids to see the movie "The Testaments" in hopes to help them better visualize what it might have been like during this time in Book of Mormon history. I had forgotten how effective this movie is and, for anyone interested, it's available on church dvd for family use. The movie goes back and forth between the storyline among the Nephites in the Americas and Christ ministering in Jerusalem. It was neat to see the righteousness and wickedness and destruction we've been reading about--and consider the reality of the challenges the believers faced because of their faith and think of others that struggled with believing...and put it together with what Christ was doing in another land at the same time. When we read chapter 11 Tuesday night, I know the kids had images in their minds of what it really might have been like to be in Bountiful when the Savior descended. I'm so glad we took the time to do this.
The kids voted that we celebrate MLK Day downtown every year. Can't quite find the connection there, but it sounds like a plan to me.

That's a great idea! We did some housecleaning and organizing (mostly me) and then went ice skating at the Olympic Oval. Seems like everyone else had the same idea--the place was packed! Your excursion sounds like more fun. One of these days maybe we can plan something together. Next time they go off track?
Sounds like a wonderful idea!!! What better way to spend a holiday.
