He is Brayden's new baby hamster, adopted from a girl at school whose previously-believed-to-be-sterile hamster had 8 babies. So now we have a tiny rodent as a pet. I'm adjusting to the idea. I think I've said the words "Did you wash with soap?" about 142 times since 5:30 pm last night when we brought him home. Since the kids are off track, I predict doubling that by 5:30 pm tonight. I will admit he is cute.
His name has evolved from his birth name of "Cub Hector" to "Houdini", with Connor calling him "Brayden Jr. the Hamster" because he has to "get used to that other name until he is six." Well, "Houdini" just didn't seem to fit the hamster's personality this morning, so now he is "Bozo." Brayden is confident this name will fit him as a baby but also grow with him to adulthood. I would agree, and am content to let "Houdini" go since that was probably just asking for trouble. "Bozo" it is.
This is the setup the kids built for Bozo:
Sure, it looks a little ambitious for such a tiny little guy, but we wouldn't want to raise some dumb hamster with no aspirations. Bozo was supposed to reside in Brayden's room in the basement, but out of fear for the baby's warmth after leaving his mother and siblings, he is currently residing in the family room until he's more "seasoned." Our impressions of Bozo so far are that he's a big eater, but not so much a drinker. Here's hoping he lives for more than 3 days.

Wow, Aaron would be totally jealous. He has always wanted a pet. Dog- we tried twice and both times I got pregnant and couldn't handle a dog that(I had to take care of) the kids said they would take care of. We have had a cat and that was so no maintenance it was crazy. Good Luck with bozo. Thats a good strong name- for a hampster.
We too adopted a rodent from a friend at school. You know hamsters are nocturnal. Kenna's was in her room for awhile but she couldn't get any sleep. It was also Kenna's first dealing with death. "Heart" is buried in the flower garden.
